How To Prepare Your Skin For Your Wedding
Posted on June 21 2017
Your wedding day is all about celebrating the love between you and your partner with the ones you care about most.
Who are we kidding? It’s also about looking damn radiant and relishing in the oohs and aahs that come your way.
With all eyes on you, you’ll no doubt want to look flawless on your big day. Sure, you’ll likely have professional hair and makeup artists on hand to work their magic, but you’ll need to take matters into your own hands with some prior preparation to achieve that bridal glow.
Get your skin wedding-ready with this 4-week guide to glowing skin.
One Month Before
By now, you’ll have most of your wedding plans finalised (hopefully!), so you can turn your attention to yourself. Focusing on your diet, exercise, and hydration will help encourage a better complexion.
Cut out foods that are known to cause breakouts, such as dairy, trans fats, chocolate, and alcohol. These naughty (albeit, delicious) culprits can lead to congestion. Some face-friendly foods include:
- Strawberries – Bursting with vitamin C for fighting free radicals and reducing fine lines.
- Sweet potatoes – Filled with vitamin A for keeping skin cells hydrated.
- Almonds – Offering plenty of Vitamin E to fight free radicals and give you youthful-looking skin.
Now, we love our vino as much as the next gal, but there will be plenty of time for that on your honeymoon. Stick to foods rich in vitamins and antioxidants to keep your skin happy for your special day.
As well as reducing stress (farewell, Bridezilla!) and generally making you feel good, exercise increases blow flow and helps carry cell waste away from the skin. Just be sure to shower after your workout, as sweat can cause breakouts.
Up your water intake to remove toxins from your body and welcome a more glowing complexion. At least 8 glasses a day should do it, but if you live in a hot and humid climate or are pretty active during the day, you should be having more.
Two Weeks Before
Closer to the big day, you’ll want to book in with your beauty therapist or cosmetic technician for any treatments. Even gentle skin treatments can have temporary side effects, so be sure to have them done with plenty of time to heal.
Remove dead skin cells to reveal fresh, glowing skin with a salt scrub or other exfoliating treatment. These can also increase blood circulation to help reduce the appearance of cellulite.
A cleansing facial is perfect 2 weeks out from your wedding day as it gives your skin a chance to clear. Some facials can draw imperfections out or cause temporary redness, so you should never leave your pre-wedding facial to the last minute.
Two Days Before
Now that you’re buffed and primed for your big moment in the spotlight, consider any last-minute beauty enhancements.
If you’re wanting a faux glow on your wedding day, get your spray tan a couple of days beforehand. This will allow it to fully develop and settle down, and in case you change your mind, you’ll have time to remove it.
There’s really only one thing left to do: take a deep breath and do a face mask! We love the Aspect Hydrating Mask, which can make skin silky smooth with its hydrating and calming ingredients.
