How To Treat Skin Post-Procedure

Posted on May 15 2019

There’s nothing quite like having a fresh, glowing face after a skin procedure, but don’t expect to be a radiant Goddess immediately following your treatment. All the best things take time – cheese, wine, and your results.

Learn how to take care of your skin post-procedure to speed up recovery and enjoy your results sooner.

Different Side Effects of Skin Procedures

Generally used to treat light scarring, fine lines, and pigmentation, microdermabrasion uses microcrystals to gently remove the top layer of skin to reveal fresh, younger-looking skin.

Possible side effects include tightness, sensitivity, redness, and bruising.

Chemical Peels

A chemical solution is applied to the skin to eventually cause peeling of the outer layer. This is generally used to treat ageing skin with fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation.

Possible side effects include redness and swelling.

IPL Treatment

Used to remove hair, treat pigmentation, sun damage, acne, and thread veins, IPL treatment involves delivering intense pulses of non-coherent light on the skin with a handheld flashgun.

Possible side effects include redness and swelling.

Laser Resurfacing

Ideal for reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars, laser resurfacing uses concentrated pulsating beams of light to treat affected areas of the skin.

Possible side effects include itching, redness and swelling.

Derma Rolling

Also known as skin needling, this treatment is generally used to treat acne scars and other scarring, pigmentation, fine lines, stretch marks, large pores, and blackheads.

Possible side effects include redness, irritation, and dryness.

Post-Procedure Aftercare

This a general guide to treating your skin following one of the above skin procedures.

    • Wash face to remove any remaining micro-crystals (microdermabrasion) or residue left on your skin after the procedure. We love the Cosmedix Benefit Balance as it’s formulated to effortlessly remove microdermabrasion crystals and conductive gel used in some treatments.
    • Avoid intentional sun exposure for a week after your treatment. Sun damage can slow down the healing process. If you’re heading outside, wear a hydrating sunscreen with at least SPF 50+, like the Aspect Sun CC Cream SPF 50

Your needs may change depending on the procedure you received, so always be sure to ask your cosmetic or medical practitioner how to best care for your skin following a procedure.
