Medik8 Pore Refining Solutions

Medik8 Pore Refining

Our Pore Refining range is centered around mandelic acid and red clover extract. Red clover minimises pores by helping to regulate sebum flow through the pore. Mandelic acid gently dissolves the debris within congested pores, allowing them to visibly shrink back to their original size. Over time, pores are left virtually undetectable and skin feels soft and supple.

More About Large Pores

Enlarged pores can be a bugbear for many. Notoriously difficult to treat, they can make a flawlessly smooth complexion feel almost impossible to achieve. We all know daily skincare is essential to help keep pores in good condition: cleanse to remove excess oil and debris and exfoliate to remove dead skin cells. But what next? That’s where Medik8 come in.

THE MEDIK8 APPROACH

Our approach to minimising pores is different. Whether they’re caused by natural skin ageing or an oily complexion, Medik8 researchers have developed an incredible blend of ingredients that help to tighten pores and reduce sebum flow. The two co-stars of the Pore Refining solution are mandelic acid and red clover extract. Red clover is a powerful skin-balancing botanical renowned for its pore tightening properties. It helps to regulate the sebum flow through the pore. Mandelic acid helps to decongest blocked pores which allows them to visibly shrink back to their original size. It also reboots your skin’s natural elasticity so that pores appear visibly tightened.

RED CLOVER EXTRACT

For oily skin types, red clover regulates the sebum flow through the pore, which allows the pore to shrink back to its original size and appear less congested. For enlarged pores caused by ageing, it reboots your skin’s natural elasticity so that pores appear visibly tightened. Exfoliating AHAs and BHAs also help to decongest pores and reduce the chances of blackheads appearing.

Red clover extract is combined with mandelic and lactic acid in Pore Minimising Tonic™; a new post-cleansing solution to exfoliate deep within pores, removing excess oil. The result is a refined and resurfaced skin texture. The Pore Refining solution works together synergistically to provide immediate results as well as treating the underlying causes of enlarged pores.

Cause & Prevention

One of the biggest areas of feedback we get from Medik8 customers is that they are worried about their pores. Too big, too blocked, too many blackheads - the problems with pores are seemingly endless.

WHAT CAUSES BLOCKED PORES?

The millions of tiny openings all over our skin house our hair follicles and produce sebum, an oily substance which is used to waterproof and moisturise the skin. Sebum provides a protective layer all over your body against irritants. While exceptionally important for your skin’s health, pores can also be the source of a lot of problems. They can become clogged with sebum and dead skin cells; often becoming red and inflamed blemishes. Clogged pores can also lead to blackheads which are caused by exposed sebum reacting with the air. This reaction causes sebum to darken in colour, leaving pores more noticeable. Overproduction of sebum can also overstretch pores as they open up to accommodate the flow of sebum, which ultimately makes the pores larger and more obvious.

At Medik8, we decided to tackle this head on, creating a specific pore range based on our extensive research into the multiple factors which contribute to enlarged pores.

BIOLOGY

Genetics play a key part in determining pore size. Those with naturally oily skin may be more prone to both blemishes and large pores. Testosterone levels are key to the production of sebum and as a result males tend to have larger pores than females. Both men and women have testosterone, which is important for sebum levels in the skin. An enzyme called 5-alpha reductase converts the testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, which stimulates sebum production. Female pore size may fluctuate throughout the month due to hormone level changes which alter the flow of sebum through pores.

AGEING

The skin is supported by an intricate network of collagen and elastin, which leaves pores taut and skin firm. As we age, the network of collagen and elastin begins to break down, leading to a loss of elasticity. This allows gravity to have a stronger pull on the skin’s surface; stretching out the pores to a more noticeable oval shape.

ENVIRONMENT

Sun damage and environmental damage can accelerate skin ageing; intensifying the rate of collagen and elastin breakdown. The environment can also dry out the skin; shrinking the skin’s tissues which stretch the edges of the pore.

THE MEDIK8 APPROACH

At Medik8, we treat pores differently. With a tailored range specifically for those struggling with enlarged pores, we have a solution for everybody. The range tackles the hidden causes of enlarged pores, as well as providing immediate results as a day-to-day solution. Pore Minimising Tonic™ provides instant tightening, while also working behind the scenes to target the underlying causes of enlarged pores. Add this to your existing skincare regime or use the full pore range for a bespoke solution to your pore predicament. Read our Pore Philosophy page to learn more.

Top Tip

Even though it feels counterintuitive, moisturising well is essential for oilier skin types prone to pores. Without moisture your skin will start to overproduce sebum to counteract the dry skin, stretching out pores and making skin even oilier.
